Summer 2019 will see a new chapter unfold in MKG Risers history as the organization begins the formation of a women’s team.
A player combine is slated for Wednesday, July 10 at 6:30pm on the campus of Grand Valley State University, and the inaugural women’s game is scheduled for Saturday, August 3 at 7:15pm in Muskegon Catholic Central’s Kehren Stadium. The Risers will face the Muskegon Community College women’s team, placing women’s soccer along the MKG Lakeshore on full display.
Select players from the combine will be invited to train from 6:30-8pm on the following dates for further evaluation: July 16, 18, 23, 25, 29 & August 1
A final roster of 18 players will be announced on August 2 ahead of the inaugural game on August 3, 7:15pm at Muskegon Catholic Central.
Matt Schmitt, Muskegon Risers President, will manage the women’s team during its 2019 player combine, training schedule, and inaugural game. The team’s primary objective in 2019 is to create a talent pool with both college and post-college players during its player combine. The Risers will then form a roster largely comprised of post-college players to train and play in the inaugural game on August 3. For the remainder of August, the Risers will evaluate next steps regarding league play in 2020. At that time, the process of hiring a permanent head coach will also begin.
